pre and post care instructions & guidelines

Pre-Tan

Before your spray tan:

All other appointments should be done at least one day before your tanning session.

These include:

Mani/pedis, hair, waxing, facials, massage, etc.

Your tan should be your last service booked for any occasion (with the exception of hair & makeup).

Shower - Try to shower 12-24 hours before your spray tan. If you have to shower the day of, then do so first thing in the morning, not right before your tan. Avoid Dove products and body oils.

Exfoliation is essential for a good spray tan! Exfoliate 12-24 hours prior to your spray tan with a basic loofah or wash rag. Also, stay away from any heavy exfoliating oils.

After showering DO NOT apply lotions, oils, or perfumes.

Shaving should be done at least 12 hours before your spray tan. Streaks may be an issue in your final tan if you shave right before due to the wax from the shaving bar.

The Day of Your Tan

The day of your spray tan session:

Do not wear make-up, deodorant, perfume, or lotions. Don't worry if you forget! We can supply make-up wipes and exfoliating wipes.

Your session, whether mobile or in-studio, will last approximately 30 mins.

You may wear bathing suit, undergarments or tan nude; whatever you are comfortable with!

Your custom tan will be applied by handheld spray gun.

After a short drying period (including setting powder!), you can dress.

STUDIO TANS:

BRING TO YOUR SESSION:

Hair ties

Dark loose fitting clothing (cotton) for after tan/Flip flops or open top shoes (flats, etc)

An umbrella (in case of bad weather)

Large towel to place over your car seat to avoid bronzer staining if wearing shorts/dress afterwards

NO JEANS/LEGGINGS/TIGHT YOGA STYLE PANTS/SPORTS BRAS/TIGHT SOCKS

Post-Care

After your spray tan:

Your tan will take up to 24 hours to fully develop.

Avoid any activity that would cause sweating until your first rinse; this would include exercise, excessive sweating, or showering, as your spray tan is developing during these hours.

Contact with water or sweat could result in lines or uneven tanning.

If you choose to sleep in your spray tan so that it darkens overnight, please sleep in long dark pajama pants/sweat pants and a tee/top to avoid transfer of any bronzer. No bras or socks.

After development time, take a warm rinse shower. Absolutely NO soap. A really slow rinse with luke-warm water is best. Only use your hands to remove the bronzer, and focus your attention to your legs, behind your arms, etc. The #1 cause for streaks is that the bronzer was not rinsed off properly and can stain the skin for a few days.- NO rubbing. You will see the bronzer wash away from your skin. This is completely normal.

The next time you shower can be with soap. Wash with a mild, moisturizing, sulfate-free shower gel. No lotion based body washes (Dove, Oil of Olay) No bar soaps. Use products without mineral oil. A transparent body wash is your best choice.

Apply a mineral oil free/petroleum free moisturizer after this shower and then at least twice a day to maintain tan. Our favorites are Hempz , Aveeno, and Cerave lotions.

The life of your spray tan depends on the care you take of your skin, your activities (working out/swimming/ocean/hot showers, spas, etc). So, a spray tan can last anywhere between 5-14 days depending.

Maintenance

Moisturize 1-2 times a day with a perfume-free & alcohol-free lotion. Stay away from anything with mineral oil in it.

Great lotions to use: Hempz, Cerave, Aveeno, Cocoa Butter

Sunscreen Rec: Sun Bum

Pat dry after showering - no rubbing

AVOID:
~ Bar Soaps (especially drug store brands)...unless naturally oil-based (like shea butter, goats milk, olive oil, and cocoa butter soaps)
~ Body washes like Dove
~ Baby oil/Mineral oil/Petroleum-based products
~SPF Oils and Sprays that contain MINERAL OIL! Most have this...so stick with SPF LOTION.

Tips and Tricks

Removing Tan

Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate!

Soak in the bath with baby oil, then exfoliate.

Also, you can shower or bathe with lemon Juice and Baking Soda to remove spray tan.

We also highly recommend a dry brush ~ use it in the shower to scrub off old tan! x
